Lunar Age Calculator
Find Your Traditional Chinese Age
Calculate your Chinese age from a Gregorian birth date using the common Lunar New Year convention. We also show your completed international age so the two systems are easy to compare.
Calculate your Chinese age
Enter a Gregorian birth date. The result follows the common Lunar New Year convention.
How the lunar age calculation works
Traditional Chinese age is a calendar convention, not a second birthday system. You start at age one at birth, then gain one year when the next Lunar New Year arrives. That means your Chinese age can be one or two years higher than your completed international age, depending on where both dates fall in the lunisolar year.
- 1
Convert both dates
Your birth date and the selected as-of date are mapped to their lunar years.
- 2
Apply the year boundary
The age changes at Lunar New Year, rather than on your Gregorian birthday.
- 3
Compare conventions
The result shows Chinese age and completed international age side by side.
Chinese age is not a Bazi prediction
This tool answers a calendar question: how many Lunar New Year boundaries have you lived through? It does not interpret your personality or forecast your future. For a complete Four Pillars chart, use our Chinese astrology calculator.
